Reviews on Black Decker Toaster Ovens

This review is from: Black & Decker TRO480BS Toast-R-Oven 4-Slice Toaster Oven.

We looked at numerous ovens and wanted something that did the basic things and didn't take up much space. No convection they have a convection oven and no digital - its a basic appliance. They looked at the B&D 240 but this appeared basic and flimsy. Then they saw this. It's all the basics, it is a nice, tiny size and its silver / black which matches our kitchen. It's three controls as compared to the basic model w/ two making it simple to choose temp, function and time. The handle is securely attached to the glass door -the metal ends wrap around the glass so it won't fall off a complaint about other ovens. It's a pleasant slide out crumb tray that has access from the front with the oven door close - this makes it simple to empty. Nicely toasted our first bagel in a couple of minutes and it was evenly browned, something our regular toaster did not do well at all.

Pros
Gets hot rapid
Basic controls work well
Simple access crumb tray
Even toasting and heating

Cons
Not plenty of
The top and sides do get hot so don't store anything on this.

I have owned lots of toasters, from pricey english models to this basic black & decker. Over the years, I have come to the conclusion that that it doesn't matter how much a toaster costs, it will only last 1-2 years. This black & Decker model seems ok. It does well with bagels & frozen items, but regular toast seems to puzzle it. Without changing the settings, later batches of toast will emerge without any consistency at all. While the toast is never burned, it is also never ideal at first try, no matter what the level is set to. That being said, it works, & it cost only around $20, so I cannot complain.

I have used this toaster every day for a couple of weeks now, & the only thing it's going for it is looks & cost. I read Amazon reviews for everything else, don know why I didn't in this case.

The first issue is that it doesn't toast evenly. A quantity of the coils don't appear to get hot (red), so there's bands in your toast that are not browned. It's to be turned up high to get the whole piece, then the rest is so hard it is disagreeable. And, that makes the cooking time much longer. Secondly, when the toast is finally completed, the bread doesn't come out far so that for even a regular sized slice of bread your fingers must touch the hot toaster to get the piece out.

I absolutely do not recommend this toaster.
